To Krakow and warm weather

It was an early start to get the Intercity express to Krakow

Fascinating to see the Polish landscape- mostly flat, and mostly forested, with the occasional small village, with people doing odd jobs in their gardens or allotments.  It was a 3.5 hours trip, and I really enjoyed it.  This beats plane travel hands down. You see far more of the country you're visiting from this window, large and square and at ground level, rather than 30,000 feet above it through a little oval porthole. Your carbon footprint is considerably lower too.

The landscape started to change as we approached Krakow- even went through a long tunnel.

On arrival at Krakow station, I noticed how very busy it was, with what looked like thousands of tourists. Which had turned to be true for the rest of the city.  The weather is really warm now- a t shirt wearing 18 degrees.

My hotel is in the Jewish Quarter- very atmospheric, and full of tragic WW2 history.

Then it was a wander towards the Old Market Square through very lovely tree lined walkways.

until I got the Old Market Square, absolutely rammed with (I'm guessing) mostly tourists. But it was a great vibe in the sunshine, felt like a real holiday day.

I climbed the Town Hall tower to get a birds eye view.

Inside the old Cloth Hall in the middle of the square:

Back to the Jewish Quarter for an evening meal, and an early night before tomorrow's early start for parkrun. The regular Krakow parkrun has been cancelled (!), but that gives me the chance to bag a "Z" from the parkrun alphabet challenge- I'm off to do Zielony Jar ("Green Jar") parkrun in the morning.

  1. Chrissi will be jealous of the Z ! all the white stuff has gone since we were there in December, looks a different place entirely!
