Bikes, Boats and Trams

 Amsterdam's first choice of transport is definitely the bike. (The sit up and beg variety). Every street and footpath is choc a bloc with cyclists. And they don't hang about. You have to make sure you don't stray onto the cycle lanes at the side of every road, otherwise you'd get taken out.






The whole city is criss crossed with tramlines and canals.  Cars and lorries are in the complete minority in this metropolis.

    Assume they don't get stolen to the same degree as they do at home either! Civilised!

I'm taking full advantage of my first class interrail pass. I have this whole compartment to myself!    - an opportunity to chill out and take it easy before tomorrow's half marathon. I thoroughly recommend travel by train in Europe.  Trains always run on time, and are immaculately clean and comfortable. I'm currently on my way to Poland from Frankfurt(Oder).   I don't realise there were two Frankfurts in Germany.  The one I'm travelling from is the Other (Oder) one!

Final day at sea

Weather wise, a perfect day to spend at sea- hot sunshine, so most people were on deck. I think I might have annoyed some people as I ran rond the running track 30 times. The running track was bordered by a lot of sun loungers! At the end of the day, on our approach to Vancouver, we sailed through some really pretty fjords.

And so it begins. First trip of 4 over the next 3 months

We're on our way to Tenerife for a family holiday in a villa.   Hopefully a chill out week for the 8 of us.  We had a long drive in torrential rain to get to Stansted Airport.  The Sat Nav decided it would be better to travel via the North Circular.   I really though it had lost it, because the traffic was stop start all the way round.   Needless to say, we arrived at the airport in plenty of time. To keep us going over the next few hours, we decided to eat at the Italian restaurant in the departure lounge. Lovely Lasagne, followed by a very mellow Latte.  It set me up for the flight. More later when we arrive this evening.
