Amsterdam - a city of bikes

Arrived at 11.30am.  An incredibly busy station.  The building itself rivals St.Pancras for its ostentatious beauty.   The area in front of the station was filled with maybe 1,000 people.

First port of call was to get a 3 day pass for the trams. They run everywhere throughout the city. I wanted to leave my bag at the hostel I'm staying in, so I headed there first.

It's right next to the Vondelpark- so guess where I'll be running in the morning. My room is the one next to the flag.

Then it was a walk around a quiet residential area of the city-  Jordaan.   The city has concentric rings of canals.  Everywhere you go, there are people cycling.  My guess is that bikes outnumber cars by 10 to 1.   It makes for a very quiet and human scale environment. I really like it.

After last night's aborted sleep attempt, my day has ended at around 7.30pm, so I hope to get a good night's sleep.
