A slip in the Spacetime continuum
Day 3 in Wroclaw (pronounced Vrackslav apparently). Started the day writing yesterday's blog in Vinyl Cafe. Then off the to museum of Illusions, passing on the way dome of the prettier parts of the city, with a couple of art installations.
The museum was full of interesting exhibits some of which made you go googly eyed. Some great holograms in there too.
I was searching where I could go to for an afternoon's trip with my interrail ticket, when I realised that Magor was only 40 minutes away!
What? I've got to check this out.
I jumped on a train to Magor (Poland ! ),
.... only to find out that "Magor" is in fact a building supplies company in the small town of Olésnica!
The town itself was interesting, with historical buildings sitting cheek by jowl with 60s style flats and commercial buildings. A fairly sleepy town. With not much happening by the looks of it. In such a place you get the locals weighing you up, and perhaps restraining themselves from asking me "Why on earth have you come HERE?"
After a couple of hours I went back to the single platformed railway station to get back to Wroclaw. The train I was expecting seemed to arrive early. I checked with the guard about me getting to Wroclaw, she spoke something in Polish and nodded. I guessed that this would be OK. WRONG! It was headed in the wrong direction. The guard came up and apologised and said that I would need to get off at the next stop, with a 90 minute wait for the right train. To say that the station was quiet is an understatement. It was out in middle of nowhere and completely deserted. 90 minutes is a long time in a quiet, desolate place with no other soul about. This really was beginning to be like an episode from the X files.
The train eventually arrived. Double checking with the guard, I jumped on, and am now back in my hotel room. Phew.
I do feel that I've been on a strange journey today.
Well a unique day for sure, all because of Magor!
ReplyDeleteOh Rob....that does sound a bit like an unintended adventure, but well done for making the most of it and taking it in your stride: including the enforced time to just 'pause' for a while!!
